2025 Potluck Picnic and Hall of Fame Induction
KNIK MUSEUM- 10524 KNIK-GOOSE BAY ROAD, WASILLA, AK
As we do every year, this was a potluck picnic where everyone brought their favorite dish to share! Dessert and drinks were provided.
The 2025 inductee into the Mushers Hall Of Fame was the iconic Susan Butcher, the second women to win the Iditarod and the only woman to win four Iditarod Championships, in 1986, 1987, 1988, and 1990. In 1979, Susan, Joe Redington, Ray Genet and two others took a dog team to the top of Denali. Susan’s daughter Tekla, traveled from Fairbanks to accept the honor on behalf of the family and spoke about her mother.
Robert Redington was the musher delivering the mail with his dog team. As a part of this event, the Bjorn Cabin was an official USPS post office. Commemorative cachets celebrating Susan, representing the mail that all mushers in the Iditarod are required to carry, were delivered by Robert Redington and his dog team, hand stamped by a USPS postal employee, then made available for sale as a souvenir of the day. Guests are also always welcome to bring any other mail, birthday cards, and letters to be stamped with our specially made cancelation stamp.
Our raffle was a great success once more, with prizes donated by the Alaska Railroad and Mahays Riverboats.
Following the raffle, an interesting tour of the old Knik Townsite and beach was led by WKHS member Chase McCavit.
