2026 Picnic and Hall of Fame Induction

KNIK MUSEUM – 10524 KNIK-GOOSE BAY ROAD, WASILLA, AK

Burt Bomhoff was inducted into our Hall of Fame on July 19, 2026, to the delight of many fans and visitors to this event. This year, instead of a potluck, WKHS sponsored a free picnic. Our MC was Barb Redington, and Isaac Redington delivered the mail to Misha Wiljes, USPS post office official AND a veteran of the Iditarod Race herself. Eighteen-year-old Isaac is planning to enter the Iditarod himself this year, and will be the first of four generations of Redingtons to do so. A tour of the original Knik townsite was provided by WKHS member Chase McCavitt.

Burt Bomhoff, along with several of his family members, were the honored guests of the day. Following his introduction and induction by Barb Redington, Burt entertained the crowd with stories of his adventures as a musher starting in the first Iditarod and his continued experiences as a racer and his critical involvement with starting the Iditarod commitee and headquarters’s building.

2026 Alaska Day Dinner

Each year WKHS invites everyone to join us to celebrate the transfer of Alaska from Russia to the United States, which occurred on October 18, 1959.

The 2026 Alaska Day Dinner will be held at Evangelo’s in Wasilla on Saturday, October 17. The doors open at 4:30 for a Meet and Greet and to drop off your best baking for the Famous Dessert Auction. Cakes, cookies, pies, brownies, bars-we love them all! Desserts will be auctioned off first, followed by dinner, silent and live auctions and our guest speaker.

Tickets are $60 and must be pre-purchased through the website on our Shop page or by mailing a check to WKHS, 300 North Boundary Street., Wasilla, AK 99654. Deadline for reservations is October 10.
